Twitter, Facebook DDOS Attack links to Russia-Georgia Conflict?
Social Media Giants, Twitter and Facebook saw the system failure yesterday and are responding slow today. Both of them faced DDOS Attack from the unidentified sources. The magnitude was so huge that brought Twitter down for few hours, and alerted Security Agencies of probable terrorist attack on US Companies.
The reality seems very different. A Georgian Blogger who uses name “Cyxymu” (the name of a town in the Republic of Georgia) is the point of attack, and the attackers targeted all the sites where he raised his voices. It included Google’s Free blogging service Blogger and Microsoft’s Live Journal.

Microsoft and Google services did not have much effect, and even Facebook managed to serve most of the time. Twitter being a new and unprepared company got the biggest damage.
There is a news of Google helping Twitter and Facebook to fight the problem. It is showing the big heart once again. The traditional competitors are working together to fight the common enemy, the Spamsters and Cyber Criminals. Here is what News at CNet.com says -
A Google spokesman offered this statement: “We are aware that a handful of non-Google sites were impacted by a DOS attack this morning, and are in contact with some affected companies to help investigate this attack. Google systems prevented substantive impact to our services.”
It is yet to be proved if this is the reason and the only reason. The intensity of the attack and the damage was huge. We will have to wait and watch the progress of the Security Agencies to find the root cause.
