iPhone gets security App from Cisco
The only reason that iPhone have not been able to enter the corporate circle is due to its security system. Blackberry’s Enterprise Solution on the other hand provides a very secure path to the user’s data.
Data sent to the BlackBerry smartphone is encrypted by BlackBerry Enterprise Server using the private key retrieved from the user’s mailbox. The encrypted information travels securely across the network to the smartphone where it is decrypted with the key stored there.
Data remains encrypted in transit and is never decrypted outside of the corporate firewall.
But now, things are different for iPhone because Cisco have launched an iPhone application to manage the security. The application is networked to Cisco’s Security Intelligence Operation which provides real-time notifications when the network detects any threat.
This system uses information from about 700,000 sensors at ISPs, the company’s sites, and other locations to assess threats. The SIO To Go app allows users to personalize these alerts, and it includes other information for tracking threats.

Cisco SIO To Go iPhone Features
Powered by the Cisco Security IntelliShield Alert Manager Service, the Cisco SIO To Go iPhone application informs, protects and enables users to respond in real time to alerts and threats to the network. The application delivers early warning intelligence, threat vulnerability and proven Cisco mitigation solutions to users’ iPhones as they occur. It also provides unique IP and URL address e-mail and Web reputation look-up powered by the Cisco IronPort® SenderBase Security Network and the Cisco SIO.
Alerts delivered include:
- Cisco Product Security Incident Response Team (PSIRT) Alerts
- Cisco Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS) Signatures
- Cisco Applied Mitigation Bulletins
- Cisco Threat Outbreak Alerts
And many others
SIO To Go iPhone may attract many corporate users to consider iPhone as their alternative. But analyst are still thinks that iPhone has many loop holes before it can truly be considered as safe for corporate user. Though iPhone started with normal consumers in mind, it may take a while before they compete with Black Berry on its Enterprise solution.
