Topsy gives tough competition to Tweetmeme and OneRiots in Real Time Search
Topsy have really taken real time search to next level. Though I wanted to share it’s features in my previous post, I thought its more relevant to go with new post. So first let’s explore the needs in real time search.
Contemporary real time search engines, like Tweetmeme, twitter search and OneRiot deal with live data floating in the web. But doing this they seem to have missed the opportunity of bringing more from old tweets. Though Tweetmeme had come with its analytics feature, I think it’s really not what users are looking from a real time search. For user, it’s all about content. Who cares from which place it came!! The analytics is a very niche market only for marketers or analyst. What about millions of people in Social Network, who are not bothered about statistics at all? Don’t you think we need a better search result? I think Topsy is doing just that.
Topsy have worked on top of old data and categorized them to give user more results. If you search in Topsy using any key word, you can find more results there than in any other sites. Let me show some of useful and new features in Topsy.
On its left hand side, it has time category from which you chose recency of the result. You can see from all the result to latest in hours time.

This is how Topsy shows results. You can see the number of tweets each topic has received. Remember that its not about tweets but instead its about the unique content and the number of tweets they have received. In the second and third result, you can see TOP*5k, its the new feature which they have launched. Its shows that particular content is among the tops 5K articles. This could only be achieved by working on top of stored data.
This is more interesting of all. Here you can see the top contributors of the links related to keyword. You can find great contents and also people who are sharing them. This way you get a chance to connect with particular person. Great and Cool!
There is more to the content search in Topsy. In order to filter the spam, each users are rated according to influence. This brings the relevance of the content in search result. Recently, I was reading about what makes a product cool. Many have failed to find the formula. But I think its all about making things with passion and keeping users in mind. I think Topsy have done that. Kodos and I think real time search will see many other break through in user experience.

Hmm, this looks interesting!
