Final Fantasy XIII on PS3 launches in Japan

The wait for Final Fantasy XIII is finally over and the latest version of the long running series has been launched in Japan this morning. This is the first time, the much awaited game has been launched for PS3 and comes with a console as well. The game got a very warm welcome with hundreds of people waiting in a queue early in the morning to be the first owners of the game.

The series is one of the most popular game series in Japan. When  the earlier version Final Fantasy XII was launched in 2006, the three month sales in Japan was at 2.2 million copies. The pre release shipment for the new version has already reached 1.8 million copies.

Final Fantasy XIII is an entire world developed by one of our creators,” Yoichi Wada,CEO of Square Enix said. “Of course you can complete the game fast but if you take your time you’ll be able to live inside the game for several months.”

The game has taken five years for development will be launched in Europe and North America next. The release for these regions will be on March 9th and it will also be available for Xbox 360. The special edition of the console has also been launched by Sony to mark the launch of the game with the the game’s heroine, and the Final Fantasy XIII name on the case.
