Yahoo Japan Offers Free iPhone App for Yahoo Auction
Yahoo! Auction expands [Japanese] its frontend into growing smartphone segment with a free iPhone application which name is “Yahuoku”, reports Tech Blog Asiajin. Yahoo! Auction is No. 1 auction website in Japan, who defeated eBay in 2002.
“Yahuoku” is Japanese abbreviation form of Yahoo! Auction (such like “Super Mario” becomes “Su-mari” and “Pocket Monster” to “Pokemon”). People call and search it “Yahuoku”, which means this app is the flagship product on iPhone.
Akky, the Editor of Asiajin feels that the name of the app shows their enthusiasm while lacked promise. The first version does not provide seller’s profile. One can only search and bid auctions. Akky feels this will make many Yahoo! Auction/iPhone users disappointed. It is seen in low user ratings on iPhone app store.
GT Analysis
This is a smart move by Yahoo Japan. I am sure the company will better the product in future releases. Yahoo Japan has not delayed in accepting the iPhone revolution in Japan, which is highly probable in few months time.
I wonder why Yahoo does not become as aggressive as its Japanese venture. There is so much promise in Yahoo Japan, which makes them No 1 Internet Company in the Asian Economic Giant and World’s second largest economy.
