Eco ATM to pay you instantly for recycling mobile phones

Not many of us pay attention to the fact that recycling mobile phones is also a way towards greener earth. We could give many reasons for never recycling your phone but now we have a reason for recycling phone. EcoATM, a kiosk which pays you for your old mobile instantly. This intelligent machine inspects the phones automatically and evaluates its market value and pays you right then and there. If the mobile is not worth any money, you can choose to recycle the phone by assigning it to the recycling bin.

The kiosks currently work only for mobiles but will soon include iPods, MP3 players and game cartridges. There are five kiosks placed already and the company plans to extend the number to 200 by the year end. The kiosks would mostly be put in electronic retail shops.

The process is just three steps:

  • Insert portable CE device or handset
  • Used device automatically valued
  • Portables automatically binned inside. User receives trade-up coupon, gift card, cash, and/or charitable contribution
