Google announced on Friday (28) a list of the thousand most visited websites worldwide. Topping the list is Facebook, with 570 billion page views and 540 million unique users per month and 35.2% reach. The survey does not include Google’s own sites, as the main search page.
Second on the list is Yahoo, with 490 million users and 70 billion pageviews a month. The home page of Windows Live (which includes Hotmail, for example), figure in third with 370 million users and 39 billion hits. Rounding out the top five sites of Wikipedia and MSN.
The list released by Google confirms the growing trend of Facebook. In March, the consultancy Hitwise found that the social network had passed Google itself in terms of number of hits in the United States.
The data are calculated based on the platform DoubleClick Ad Planner, an advertising system that tracks access codes embedded in banners and sponsored links. The tool takes into consideration other data, such as information sent by the Google Toolbar, Google Analytics data and other business metrics. The complete ranking can be found on page one of Google.
