Yahoo Integrates Facebook Deeper into its Websites
Yahoo! in its efforts to strengthen its foothold in the rising trend of social media is further boosting its relations with the world’s largest social networking site , Facebook. The company will now stream more information and updates from Facebook accounts across Yahoo’s various websites.
The feature known as the “news feed” will allow the users to view the stream of Facebook updates from friends on yahoo mail and yahoo.com. Also users’s Facebook profiles will display their action on the yahoo services. For example posting pictures on Yahoo’s photo sharing site Flicker will also stream them on Facebook updates.
That’s not all as according to the earlier announcements, Yahoo also plans to import personal updates from the microblogging site Twitter as well soon. And by the end of the year, Yahoo will begin featuring widely played Internet games such as “Farmville,” “Mafia Wars” and “Fishville,” made by Zynga.
“More and more, people rely on social networks to share and discover information that matters to them,” said Yahoo! senior director of social platforms and developer network Cody Simms. “We are bringing all of these elements together to give people one simple, trusted place to share information and connect.”
Avoiding any privacy backlash like Google’s Buzz, Yahoo is simplifying and securing the information share through its privacy setting tool called the Yahoo Pulse. Its actually Yahoo’s identity control center that was earlier known as Yahoo Profiles , a social-networking-like service designed to let users post information about themselves and connect with other users. Yahoo Pulse is a more enhanced version of its predecessor and is expected to be available soon in few days.
This isn’t Yahoo’s first foray into the social media world especially with Facebook. Facebook Connect already formed the part of its various websites and services since last year. Also two months ago, Yahoo Mail customers were pleased to have new features that allowed them to access their Facebook profiles to a great extent from within the mail.
The new changes clearly outline Yahoo’s prime focus over social media and it will be interesting to see how well these new features will be accepted by the users.
