FlipBoard Becomes the First Social Media Magazine on iPad
When Apple’s revolutionary tablet hit the market, it was assumed to transfigure the media consumption habits of people, setting new standards of online information sharing. The suppositions are now drawing closer to reality with a new iPad app, dubbed Flipboard that combines the pleasure and ease of print media with the power of social media.
How? Well the new app that boasts of being ‘world’s first social media magazine’ offers easy access to the content shared on the social networks. More elaborately, Flipboard connects to user’s social media accounts, chiefly Facebook and Twitter and aggregates the shared content in a magazine like format making it easy to read through. It also pulls the information from the popular news sources that the user chooses and puts them together along with the social content for an effortless browsing experience. The users may easily flip through the pages to navigate from one page to other.
Flipboard has tried to offer a more personalized experience to its users with its table of contents where readers can view their sections and personalize the magazine. Also the like button with every article is most likely placed to help Flipboard understand the user preferences. The users may also create community within the app itself and comment via Flipboard’s commenting feature.
The company has also announced the acquisition of Ellerdale, a relevance engine for real time web that with its advanced semantic analysis of large, real-time data streams, will enable Flipboard to extract, categorize and feature highly relevant and hot trending content from across a variety of social networks.
Flipboard certainly looks and sounds interesting. Sadly havn’t been too lucky to get my hands on the app but you may check out the detailed review in the video after the jump. Let us know what you feel about Flipboard and its seamless browsing of social media feeds.
