Google Trims Down Google Map URLs with its own Shortner

If you are one of those Google map lovers who always found the long, lengthy Google Maps URLs annoying while wanting to share them on Twitter, news articles or anywhere on the web, You’ve just been spared from having to deal with them any longer.  From now on you needn’t navigate to your favorite URL shortner to share the Google Maps link with others as an auto shortned link  service will now trim down those extended links right here for you.

According to Google Operating System, Google Maps Labs has added a new feature called “short URLs” that shows short permalinks when you click on “Link”. It makes use of Google’s URL shortening service, which is quite fast, and URLs are more descriptive because they include “goo.gl” and “maps”.

For those who need the full permalink, all they require to do is just right-click on “Link” and copy the location.  The downside of this new service is that Google removes the embedding feature if you enable “short URLs”. Overall it was one of the much needed element and we are glad Google engineers rolled it out finally. Give it a spin and share your views with us here.
