Apple announced today that Wi-Fi iPad models will be available in China starting this Friday, September 17th. The model will be released in Apple Retail Stores and select Apple Authorized resellers at 10:00 am on that day.
The Wi-Fi iPad offers a high portability at just 0.5-inch of thickness and 1.5 pounds weight, with an efficient battery back-up that allows up to nine hours of web-surfing on Wi-Fi, listening to music or watching videos. Plus the Multi-TouchTM user interface increases the ease with which users can use all of the functionalities. A free Personal Setup service will be offered to customers who buys their iPad at the store, and the ones in China have arranged for special iPad workshops to help customers know more.
However, there is no word yet on 3G-capable iPad models, which people were expecting to see after iPhone carrier China Unicom’s announcement that it would offer an iPad, apparently for the 3G connectivity thing.
As for the Wi-Fi iPad, the price has been set at CNY 3988 ($590) for a 16 GB model, CNY 4788 ($708) for the 32 GB one and CNY 5588 ($827) if you feel like getting the 64 GB model. Apple declared on its Latin American site that this Friday is also the launch date for the Wi-Fi iPad n the countries of Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. Plans are underway to release the model in some other countries towards the end of this year.
