Facebook & Twitter Fail to Control Malicious Web Links
According to cover story of USA Today, Facebook and Twitter have failed to control poisonous web links spreading at their networks.
As per as survey conducted in last December, it was found 40% of social network users encountered malicious attacks, a 90% increase from April 2009. Recently, an interim report submitted by network security firm Dasient has claimed that now it’s quite easy for anyone to create a new social network account, and then use the fresh account to pass on malicious links across the entire network.
With nearly 500 million members Facebook is the No.1 target. In spite of the most influential filtering system, Web links are still spreading across the service network. Surprisingly surveys have shown an increase in malware activity on the social networking site. “Cybercriminals prey on our natural curiosity to view only sensational content,” says Jamie Tomasello, security director at messaging security firm Cloudmark. Experts say, Anti-virus companies can only prepare database & prevent from known threats and viruses. There is still no such system to protect our own system from network framework coding. Anti-viruses simply fail to inhibit the coded structure of malicious links.
Social network denizens exacerbate the problem since most tend to click blindly on items, “The faith users put into social networks is providing an enormous universe of opportunity for nefarious actors,” says Anup Ghosh, chief scientist of browser security firm Invincea. (USA Today News Source)
Earlier we too reported some sort of similar links at Twitter network. There cybercriminals tried to trick users within the news web-link; through which it becomes easier for them to by pass the filtering system. Today Industry needs fast & furious solution to such important issues; otherwise we will soon lose all our private & confidential data. Counterbalance is Urgency !
