Any Brand Ignoring the social Media Power is set to lose the race

It is my pleasure to have one of the biggest Social Media Celebrity of India, Mr. Tinu Cherian. He enjoys learning and sharing knowledge, and he lives in Social Media.

Tinu is one such power users of Social Networks, who share his time between various networks. He started with Orkut, then shifted to Facebook and Twitter. And now, he is exploring and getting into Quora as well.

Tinu has a view that Quora is too small to be called a Twitter killer or a wiki killer, and being a Wikipedia admin himself he says Wikipedia is going to remain as long as man’s quest for knowledge remains.

He has edited some 52000 articles and written around 2000 in Wikipedia. This is not a small statistics anyone can achieve. It has come from hard work and passion from a great person.

More of his views in his own words.

[Bhupendra] Hi Tinu, Welcome to Buzzom
[Tinu] Thank you. I ‘m humbled to be part of its journey.

[Bhupendra] Did you use Buzzom earlier? Did you like it?
[Tinu] Yes, Buzzom was a great product for advanced twitter management. I used to use extensively. Looking forward for more such great products from InRev Systems.

[Bhupendra] Ok, so tell us about yourself and your second marriage – with Social Media.
[Tinu] Orkut was the one of first social networks I used extensively, apart from myspace and hi5. I primarily used it to interact and share photos with my friends and classmates. When Orkut was becoming unpopular, I switched my allegiance to Facebook. It was only in mid 2008s, I started using twitter and was easily hooked to it. Since then, twitter is my one stop to interact with thousands of people in real time all over the world, in real time. I use twitter to get and share information with over 48,000+ followers.

[Bhupendra] Which are the social networks you use most?
[Tinu] I use twitter and facebook primarily these days. Off late, I have started using Quora too. I don’t essentially consider Wikipedia as a social network although you interact with lots of Wikipedians on a virtual world and real life.

[Bhupendra] Many people say that Twitter is dying. Facebook is taking away all its charm. What is your view on it?
[Tinu] Eventually twitter and Facebook will fade and something else will take over. Having said that, in my opinion, both of them will stay around at least for another 2-3 years. The key to survival of these sites is to sustain the interest and engage the users.

[Bhupendra] You are active on Twitter and Wikipedia, how do you use them?
[Tinu] Twitter is for connecting with people around the world while Wikipedia is for sharing and getting knowledge. I am active on both English and Malayalam Wikipedias. I am an administrator on English Wikipedia. I have more than 52,000 edits and created over 2000 articles.

[Bhupendra] You got good media coverage for your contribution in Wikipedia, and except the recognition you actually get nothing for your hard-work for Wiki. What does it mean to you?
[Tinu] It is good to see that Wikipedia and Wikimedians are getting lots of media attention these days. But the Wikipedia contributors are selfless people who want to share knowledge with others and nothing more. All this is part of our commitment, “ Imagine a world in which every single human being can freely share in the sum of all knowledge.”

[Bhupendra] People say, Quora is going to kill Twitter and Wiki together. Any thoughts?
[Tinu] Quora is still in its early stages and yet to catch a larger acceptance in India. Wikipedia is here to stay as long as man’s quest for information is relevant. The key is when more regional languages getting popular which will attract more users and contributors.

[Bhupendra] Where is India in terms of Social Media adoption? Where are we heading towards?
[Tinu] India is still at the tip of iceberg of social media revolution. With raising Internet bandwidth and mobile penetration, it is bound to only grow exponentially. Any brand ignoring this social media power is set to lose the race.

[Bhupendra] Twitter and Facebook are Americans, and Chinese have their own version. Should India have it’s own too?
[Tinu] Many of these products are born in Western countries; India is yet to see such creations. The success of these products is not where it is born but being innovative and future ready. Would love to see such innovative and break through products from India too.

[Bhupendra] You blog too, right? Tell us about your blogging journey.
[Tinu] I blog at dreamingcherries.com . I write primarily about social media and social issues that I care about.

[Bhupendra] So what’s next for Tinu now?
[Tinu] I have been working in three of top multinational companies as a technology professional for more than seven years now; I am yet to work on fulfilling my entrepreneurial dreams.

[Bhupendra] Thanks Tinu. We are proud to get this chance to feature you in our Blog Launch. Have a great time ahead.
[Tinu] Thanks a ton and wishing all the success for Buzzom. Would like to see buzzom as one of the top social media blogs from Asia.
