MedicYatra is based out of Durgapur, a city famous for Socialist Revolution in India and known as Steel city which houses Durgapur Steel. Durgapur was the first planned city of India but the city finds no place in today’s progressive India.

But these facts did not deter few local guys of Durgapur who did their Engineering in NIT Durgapur (one of the Top Engineering Colleges in India), worked for few years in the industry and started the Entrepreneurial journey. The company exists now in this small city but the founders have big dreams. They want to help the poor and uninsured Americans by showing them way to get high quality Medical family at low cost. The value proposition — Medical Tourism to India.

The Medical trip is very much affordable as the Medical cost is between one fifth to one tenth of that of US. So for a US resident, coming to India and getting treated is equivalent or less than holidays to Egypt.

MedicYatra works with major Hospitals in the country and scout for patients in other nations, specially the nations with costly Medical facility such as United States. The patients are then connected to the Hospitals and guided through a reliable channel to avail Medical facility and stay while in India. The small percentage is then taken from the participating Hospital. Wonderful concept. It seriously is a win-win for all.

Today I got chance to talk with Sumit Pawar, Founder and CEO of Media Yatra. Here is the excerpt of our discussion.
