Non-profit organizations are turning to social media to raise funds and gain supporters. More and more people are using social media to reach out and promote the causes they care for. Social media platforms not only help spread the message across, but they also encourage people to offer a helping hand.

JustGiving conducted a study to gauge the impact and role of different social platforms in ‘Social Giving’. Here are some of the interesting findings of the study:

  • Twitter users are the most generous of all social media users, and give the highest value donations, when compared to the users of other social media sites like Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube and Google+. JustGiving has revealed that the average donation of a user coming from Twitter is £30.26, which compares to £28.77 on YouTube, £25.21 on LinkedIn and £18.33 on Facebook, and £17.77 on Google+.
  • Facebook outstrips all other social networks when it comes to driving online donations. In September 2011, over 27% of all JustGiving’s online donations were driven by Facebook.
  • Facebook apps drive higher donations. The study found that donors give a whopping 44% more when they can give without leaving Facebook.
  • Facebook Mobile makes up one fifth of the mobile traffic to JustGiving and has contributed to the online donations of £14.39.
