2012 is here and it’s time to look forward to new trends and events in the social media space. It’s also the time to ruminate over and learn from the social media successes and failures of the year gone by. Flowtown and Column Five have come up with a nice infographic that takes a look at the social media hits and misses of 2011.

The Japan Disaster, news of Osama Bin Ladin’s death, the Royal wedding, Occupy Wallstreet, Groupon IPO, Launch of Google+ and LinkedIn IPO  managed to create huge buzz on the social media sites and online news platforms; while others like Charlie Sheen, the London Riots, Netflix’s Qwikster failed to make a mark in the social media space last year.
