Math teachers to get their very own Facebook-like Social Networking Site
Mathematics enthusiasts are soon going to get an exclusive Facebook-like social networking site. Chennai-based online mathematics education platform HeyMath is planning to launch a new social networking for math teachers to discuss mathematics concepts and connect with other teachers to learn and share their knowledge.
The site which is expected to be launched in the next three months would be called ‘Teaching Tomorrow’. It would initially start with 30-40 web-savvy teachers in the US, would eventually be rolled out to others. By providing free apps and specialized content including live talks by mathematicians, the social networking site would help math teachers teach more effectively in the class. The site would also have popular social networking features such as ‘likes’ and ‘recommendations’ to encourage interaction.
“I am visualizing 3,000 teachers coming together (from key Hey-Math markets such as the US, Singapore and India. There is a case for bringing this community together,” says HeyMath MD Nirmala Sankaran
“An open platform such as this will help teachers resolve issues they face, and bring out creative ideas of teaching in an open environment,” adds Rao, the founder of software company MphasiS.
HeyMath was founded in May 2000 by Nirmala Sankaran and Harsh Rajan. The site provides bite-sized animated and interactive explanations that provide concept clarification visually and help dispel the fear of Math often seen among students. HeyMath was recognized as one of the 25 most innovative companies in 2007 by Microsoft, and was featured in NASSCOM’s 100 most innovative software companies in India in 2006.
