Samsung is targeting 60 per cent of the mobile smartphone market in India this year.

“Our market share in the mobile smartphone market is 41 per cent. We want to raise it to 60 per cent in 2012,” Samsung India’s country head (mobile & IT) Ranjit Yadav told the Economic Times.

Yadav stated that the company’s mobile smartphone segment in India was growing at a staggering pace of 220 per cent and that the mobile phone business was contributing to more than 50 per cent of the company’s annual revenue in the country.

“Last year, the company’s revenue was Rs 20,000 crore,” he added.

Samsung plans to boost its position in the smartphone market by creating new segments within the category.

The company launched its first wave of dual SIM smartphones in India on Tuesday. The phone comes in three models – Galaxy Ace Duos, the Galaxy Y Pro Duos and Galaxy Y Duos, priced at Rs 16,900, Rs 11,090 and Rs 10,490 respectively.

“”These devices combine the effectiveness of all smartphone features and give consumers the opportunity to maintain their work life balance. Dual SIM phones enable consumers to separate their personal life from their professional life,” Yadav explained.

Taking into account this latest launch, Samsung has in total 16 smartphone models in circulation in the domestic market.
