YouTube is hoping to double its annual ad revenue in India. The video sharing platform is also planning to enhance the site’s integration with social networking platforms and boost user interaction.
“YouTube has been lacking great social features. Commenting and sharing have been part of YouTube, but the experiences could be much better than they are,” Tom Pickett, global content head for the website, told Reuters on Thursday.
YouTube states that around 800 million unique users visit the site from India every month.
The site recently partnered with major Indian broadcasters such as Sony Entertainment Television, Colors, ImagineTV, Star India, and VikatanTV to bring their shows to its Indian audience. Now users can watch 19,000+ full episodes of around 300 Indian TV shows on YouTube, and follow shows they love watching on Youtube’s new TV Shows page.
Pickett added that YouTube was working on enhancing the social features of the comments section, which currently doesn’t allow users to log in from other social networking sites like Facebook or Twitter.
“As we think of incorporating Google Plus type functionality we think we can get a better dialogue going and a social platform that’s not just YouTube but it’s actually a common piece that cuts across all Google products,” Pickett added.
