Traditional Media Versus Social Media

At buzzom, we set out to make our clients and customers understand the trends in the ever changing media. Marshall McLuhan, a well renowned educator and a great thinker had predicted during early 60s that user participation is going to be the key factor in the future of media. When, he was making his prediction the only media that was available was Black/White Television, Radio and Newspaper. Even then, his most claims about the media are becoming true.

Today, the rise of social media has shown that each individual is a media and that we are the self producer and the consumer of the content. Social Networking sites like YouTube, Facebook and Twitter has showed who the new media is taking its shape. This drastic change in the media is slowly being recognized by every part of our industry. But there is a huge inertia which is causing the slow change in the mindset.

We have made two pictorial representation of how the media has changed and in addition how this is changing the way we do business.

Before Social Media

You can see that in Traditional media, company controls the information and the message that they are sending to people. People’s purchasing decision is based on the advertisement and sparely upon network’s recommendation.

Companies used Sales report to track their performance and marketing budget to control their campaign. But this scenario is slowly changing.

Now

Now, you can see that there is no more a wall between the consumer and business. The decision is influenced highly by friend’s and network’s recommendations. Sales reports and Marketing Budgets are no more the determining factor of success. Brand monitoring is slowly making its presence which will add many new business metrics to the company’s list.

Conclusion

When we talk about the social networking sites and the change that it is bringing, we all tend to ignore one fact: not 100% of people know about Twitter/Facebook or Youtube. The larger part of our society still depends upon TV, Newspaper and old networking sites like Forum.

But there is a change and increase in the awareness of the new media. Figures such as 500 Million users in facebook and 200M+ users in Twitter and over billions videos being viewed every day in Youtube is a strong indicating factor that the change is obvious.

Get custom size for your BlogAds plugin

After almost weeks of the launch of BlogAds, we are happy to say that we have had good responses from bloggers. In order to encourage more participation, we are adding custom features to BlogAds platform for greater usability.

On this list of features, Buzzom BlogAds have recently launched new feature to customize the size of  Blog Ad. Before, you would get a code of a fixed size Ad which you had to add to your Blogs. But now, BlogAds provides you an option to chose your own size.

Why Buzzom is not working ? - Buzzom Update

Dear Buzzom Users,

Since April 17th, Saturday, 2010 Buzzom’s system is down and we are really sorry for the inconvenience.  We really want to be open about the case, hence we would like all our users to stay with us till the problem is resolved.

The main reason behind the shutdown of Buzzom’s system is Twitter’s new rules and regulations regarding Autmation. The new rules of Twitter doesn’t allow any automatic following and unfollowing, and there has been many news of twitter users getting suspended for aggressively following and unfollowing.

This case has brought Twitter’s attention to Buzzom which basically allows user to manage their twitter account. Initially, we had a bulk unfollow and follow option which is no longer running. It was removed as requested by Twitter.

But now, our one more feature of following 50 person in one GO has been questioned. As a result, Twitter has stopped responding authentication from Buzzom’s system. We are in close talk with Twitter to restart our service and bring new changes to the system so that it doesn’t violate any terms and conditions.

We have made all the required changes to the system and are eagerly waiting for response from Twitter. Once we get the Green signal, our services will be back on service.

Getting Buzzom in Your Desktop Using Google Chrome

If Buzzom is your application of choice and you want it in desktop application form, there is a work around through Google Chrome. This is not Buzzom Desktop, a client for Tweeting and viewing tweets but the same Buzzom Web in Desktop form. It is just a web short-cut but works well.

All you need to do is to go to “Control the Current Page” button near “settings” after opening Buzzom.com in Chrome, and click on “Create Application Shortcuts”.

Once you click on Create application shortcut, you will be asked on where to place the icon. You can select one, two or all among desktop, Start Menu and Quick Launch.

You can actually create short-cuts for any other web apps and sites. Enjoy.

How to track Brands in Twitter ?

Tracking your brand has never been so easy. Previously, you would have to go to default twitter search and tracking your keyword and find all the people who were talking about your brand. But more important is to find the people that have mentioned your brand, so that you can get more in-depth understanding of your demographic.

Here is how you can do it from buzzom:

1. Log on to www.buzzom.com :

4. You are provided with the list of people who have tweeted about your brand

The next step in this would be to know if these people are in your network or not. Buzzom already has a system which works for finding that if you search via bio, location and name. But due to unfixed errors in Twitter and its resource requirement, the system is disabled and is being worked around.

Moving around New Buzzom Interface

Buzzom have come a long way with its functionality and interface. We still remember our initial steps where we had nothing but three buttons to allow user reciprocate, follow and grow. It application at that instance was quite unique and turned out to be very useful.

As now we are running into 2010, we have brought major changes to the site regarding its interface. Most of the old services are still available, beside the Mass follow and unfollow. So let me just give you a description over the changes being made.

1. Search People

Buzzom, now, has its entire focus on the people search which is widely appreciated in the twitter community. Searching people is going to be a big deal in the age of social media,  as more people spend their time in the Internet and use it for business purpose. Therefore, we have brought the service to the front page.

a. Ways to search people

You can search people in 4 ways, via:

1. Bio : Searches for the keyword in the bio of the people.

2. Name : Searches for the best match of the keyword in Name.

3. Location : The location has been indexed to give you the best result possible when you give any random name of the place.

4. Tweet : It searches for the keyword in the latest tweets made by the people.

2. Accessing old functions

We have designed the front page to be accessible to all the functions, hence there are two ways of accessing the inner functions, through the front icon panel and the Top Right menu bar.

3. Premium Buzzom

In this new interface you will find a link to Buzzom Premium. This is our new product which will be launched in January 5th 2010. Premium Buzzom provides more features and control to user giving them more benefit of being in Twitter and other social media networking platform.

Shut Down of Direct Operation Feature in Buzzom

Search People based on Bio, Tweets and Location

Advent of social networking site has give rise to new trend - People Search. Traditional Search engine like Google and Yahoo index websites and rank them, then came Social bookmarking sites, where the indexing and ranking was done by users themselves.

Buzzom has brought a new add on in its People Search feature today. Now you will be able to find people based on keyword search for Location.

Scope of the Service

If you are looking to hire 10 people in Marketing, all you have to do is search “Marketing” in Bio or Tweet in Buzzom and connect to them in Twitter. To reach a person named ‘xyz’, all you need to do is Tweet starting with ‘@xyz’. This will go to the replies section for the user and he will get the message.

How to use it

All you need to do is to visit Buzzom.com and enter using your twitter Id. On the Right hand side, you will find People Search Button.

You can use this tool to follow new people or remove existing people from your following list. If you choose to see the new people for follow, choose the option ‘I don’t follow’.

You will get a list of people below whom you can block or follow.

If you choose the other option ‘I follow’, you will see similar list of people with matching keyword with facility to unfollow them. This come handy in cleaning the Twitter stream by cleaning the unwanted spammers. You can also use it to throw all accounts Tweeting about ‘Porn’ or any other such words.

It is a useful tool specially for HR Consulting and in-house teams of big companies. Finding people with interest areas search will be easy.

Drag and Drop Media Files to your Twitter

let say, you have a video or a photo which you want to share with your friends in twitter. First you have to have an account in certain hosting site and then you have to log-in to it, then upload it, wait and when it is ready, you have to get it link and then tweet.

Its such a pain, wouldn’t it be simple if you only had to drag the picture from your desktop and drop it some where. Yes, you can in Buzzom Desktop. In buzzom desktop you just have to drag and drop the media files to media container, wait for the uploading session to be complete and then tweet it directly. If the link is long, the desktop will shorten it immediately.

Buzzom Desktop alpha version 0.0.4 implements Nxy url shortening services

Hi Buzzom users, I am writing this article on behalf of Buzzom developers team. Now we came with new alpha release version 0.0.4. In this alpha release of Buzzom desktop we implemented new feature of Nxy.in url shortening service. With this feature you will have following benefits:
1.    You can track the url you have created. To track it, you have to login in http://nxy.in with your twitter id.
2.    In Nxy dashboard   you can see all the urls you have created, and its page views.
3.    Nxy will show your short url inside a frame. And on top of its frame, you can place your  own advertisement.
