  • Why things went wrong with InRev_Buzzom’s Twitter?

Posted on June 30th, 2009 lkhatiwada No comments

First of all, our apologies to all the people who received a tweet from the @InRev_Buzzom regarding their unfollow details. The message did sound like a spam to lot of our visitors and we are sorry for it. It was not purposeful. So what did happen will the system and what was it anyway?

For last few months, InRev team has be researching on ways of coming with the best tool to manage the followers in Buzzom. Among many features, letting users know the growth or decline of their followers is very essential. Many times people are followed and then unfollowed, this goes unnoticed by the user. So why is it important to know your unfollowers?

Recently, their are thousands of spammers among us and these account rarely care about if you follow them back or not. They simply go mass following, they don’t even tweet, forget about getting replied. Therefore, we need a system to track these spammers down and make sure that they don’t follow us back again. Now, because Buzzom is a tool allowing to follow in mass and unfollow, it becomes our responsibility to make sure that we don’t allow our tool to be the weapon of Spammers.

As a result of such concern, we are designing a system to reduce spamming in you account. The automatic message being replied to all was a live test of the system.  For a while, we were thought of as being SPAMMER ourselves, thats quite an irony in our part. :) We will make sure such things doesn’t happen again.

Thank you for your patience and support. Your every suggestions are welcomed.

  • Tweet from Buzzom

Posted on June 22nd, 2009 Sweta 6 comments

One thing I always missed in TwitIn was the facility to tweet from there. As a matter of fact I used to find it annoying to leave the application in order to share my thoughts in my Twitter world. It was surprising to know that there were many users like me who wanted the facility to post their tweets from Buzzom itself.

Buzzom has been updated with this facility now with the idea to be a tool where you could manage your Twitter account completely. Its surely is the step towards the main goal.

I am completely enjoying this new feature and would love to know your experience. Please feel free to contact us at buzzom@in-rev.com for any concerns.

  • OAuth and Cross Follow in Buzzom

Recently, Buzzom has launched its new version for the users. So what are you expecting from the new version? Here are the few things which has been added to the applications:

    1. OAuth

An open protocol to allow secure API authorization in a simple and standard method from desktop and web applications. This will prevent the user from giving up their id to the third party, instead you are connected through the twitter’s authentication process.

Once you allow the authentication, you can easily operate on buzzom with out the need of repetative entry of the password. This save lot of your time. Further this is more secure than the previous method of getting the password fromthe user. In short, now you are authenticating via Twitter.

    2. Cross Follow

This is an interesting feature that is very useful. This will allow you to follow the followers of other users. The interface is very simple.

  • Benefit from Social Media Marketing

Innovation is moving so fast, in the line of social media marketing, that everyday you come across a new word which you thought never existed. Everyday, you hear a term or a new rating which gaurantees to be the better than the previous. In these kinds of environment, just a post on new ways to market has a life time of only few seconds.

    marketing

Enough has been talked about new ways to measure the effectiveness of the social media but less seems to be done. Every tool or software available has less credentials to prove the methods. In this chaotic situation, if I say I might have a solution would sound just another hoax. But I would want to to observe what I say.

Many say that the old marketing ways are obsolete and give measures and statistics to prove it. Well there is this Murphy law which I would suggest for answering such questions:

Enough research will tend to support your theory. - Murphy’s Law

There is no one perfect ways of doing marketing. There is only ways of doing it and for every different kinds of services and products some work and some don’t. Using all to see how it goes is the best you can do. So if you are uncomfortable with the Social Media Stuff, give it a go, it might just be the right thing for you.

  • To follow someone’s followers

Posted on June 9th, 2009 Sweta 16 comments

We always tend to befriend those who are already known to our friends. It’s a habit that we have picked up over years and subconsciously still follow. Why should online social media be any different?

Let me give you an example. Remember the first time you signed into Twitter, you might have tried searching for a couple of friends. After following those friends you just went into their accounts and started following more people. You find your common friends and sometimes you find new friends with a common friend. It’s easy and hassle free.

If you are an avid twitter user, it’s even more interesting and less time consuming to go to a user who has same interest as yours and add people from his network to your network.

The ‘Cross Follow’ function in Buzzom offers the most user friendly and time efficient way to carry out this operation.

You have to just write the username of the person whose followers/ following you want to follow. You can either follow all the users from his list or choose a few selected ones.

  • New Features in Buzzom

After lots of discussion and request from the user, Buzzom has been revamped to address new agenda. The need for change was obvious, and was expected from the very start of the project. Buzzom has been brought up with only one thing on mind- to cater to the needs of people in social media.

The new design has been chosen to cater to the new features that buzzom has. So lets see what these new features are:

    1. You can follow back and follow new people with just one click.

Buzzom had this feature initially but due to the mass Twitter API calls, the process had been reduced to user selection method. But now its back and better, so enjoy them.

    2. You can lock users which you want to permanently follow or unfollow.

There are users which you never wish to unfollow like NewsChannel or Celebrity. In that case it is wise to lock your user so that they will never appear in the unFollow list. In similar ways, you can also lock the users which will never appear in your grow list.

Locking user is one of the most important addition to the new Buzzom. Beside the user’s lock and unlock list, there is also an internal algorithm running which will make sure that once you unfollow any one, he/she will not appear in the follow list for at least 30 days. Why this restriction? This has been put so that user will not be accounted as Spammer by the twitter. Further this will prevent from being a complusive follower.

Finally, there are more on the store for the Buzzom User. If you have any queries you can access our FAQ section or you can simply hit the contact us link and send your queries.

Do send us your reviews and comments. We would love to respond to them.

  • Twitter : Why unfollow who dont follow you?

Posted on June 2nd, 2009 lkhatiwada 6 comments

Twitter is supposed to be a Micro-Blogging site. There most people speak, but few people listen. There are even people who neither listen, nor speak. And surprisingly, there are a lot of computer bots acting like Humans and fooling the audience.

Twitter has influenced our lives a lot, and for me second largest contributor of traffic to my blog after Google is Twitter! And that comes in just 2 months.

I have also plans for using this platform to market InRev Products and Services via Twitter. Does this mean, I am going to add junk to it? Well, the answer is very much NO, and partly YES. I will however try to make it very pleasent for my followers and not bumbard lots of ads or feeds; but will certainly engage in meaningful communication to grow my business.

I was constantly thinking for sometime, should we follow people who dont follow back? My answer is a clear NO. Here are the reasons WHY!

    1. No meaningful conversation

If you are not friend but a follower, you cannot have a meaning conversation. This will hurt your interest, and frustrate you of Social Media and Twitter.

    2. Why favor someone while you are not reciprocated?

This is another tricky thing. There is a saying, “There are two qualities of a successful man; 1. His friends are successful 2. he reads good books”. Better push your friends and they will pull you too. Why push someone and give him good exposure when he does not care you.

    3. Lack of Online Help

Twitter’s best use is to ask few what you want to know and get the answer. This is better than Google as it is Human Involved search. People who dont follow you don’t see you question; forget to get answer from them.

    4. Stars in real Life does not need to be followed in Twitter

Well this is personal choice. I have no complaint if you follow@barackobama or @britneyspears; but I will certainly not do. They are good at their place and I am not interested to know when they have lunch and when they have a shower. If anything important comes, I will get form the news and my Twitter friends will let me know. I don’t want to make all the real life stars look big in Social Media too; I would love to see new people becoming stars like @guykawasaki @unmarketing@justinrfrench @mayhemstudios etc. (and prob you and me :D)

You may rethink if you want to keep following your favorite artists.

    5. Dont ever push the indifferent friends

I have seen many people following their real life friends even through the friend is not a active Twitter user. This adds no value; and more so if he does not even care to follow you back.

    6. If you are not follow anyone, you wont lose anything

Twitter is a network of people. I am sure there are many people who dont like me, but I am happy there are also a bunch of people who like me. I would better be with the later ones. Why bother about others? Right!

If I dont follow anyone, I am sure one of my friends would be following him and I will get any important Tweet that comes in Twittersphere. It is explained by the Market Law, “If something is important in the market, you will know it.”

    7. Care about your time; but dont over-run

You can never be faster in knowing anything. Its just that, you will know. Zeroth Law of Market says, “Never invest just because you know something. If you know anything, everybody knows it.” So following someone, you wont beat time.

    8. Less the people more the care

If you follow less people and targeted people, you can share your love among them and increase your influence. While if you engage yourself in reading and RTing people who don’t follow you, you lose your relevance in your friends’ network too. Love, hate, care and ignore; all of these are reciprocated by human brain in most general cases. Do the same, and get highly connected network and increased bonding.

    9. You wont get dumped in Junk; just manage it better

Worried about auto-follow, and too much junks like auto DMs and feeds? Well, dont be. Twitter is gonna be much better. You will soon get tools to filter the junk feeds while not annoying the feeder. One way of doing it to maintain group in TweetDeck and give higher importance to the group members. Better tools should be coming; will let you know.

Actions rewarded, gets repeated. So if there are people who throw too much of junk; dont just unfollow but block him altogether!! This is the best return you can give to them.

    10. You arent makeing Twitter monotonous; you are building relations

Few of my friends believe if everyone starts following others, Twitter becomes too monotonous. I disagree. There can be many inter-connected groups; it will be better modeled in a complex network of many segments where few nodes are common in more than one segments.

Result: lesser distance within the segments i.e. similar minds together; larger distance between different groups i.e. dissimilar minds away!! This will fuel the happiness index of the Twitter users, and thus make Twitter a better palce to be in.
